“Biography: Assistant Professor Robin James Storer, PhD, MRACI, CChem
Dr. Storer joined the Medical Faculty at Chulalongkorn University in 2012 and is a coeditor of Asian Biomedicine, an international journal with a focus on problems and research relevant to the Asian region. Dr. Storer teaches students in interdisciplinary graduate degree programs and assists the supervision of graduate research students. He pursues research interests in neurological disorders including primary headpain and migraine using electrophysiological and neuropharmacological methods.
A graduate of the University of Adelaide, Robin James Storer trained at the Centre for Neurosciences, Flinders University Medical Centre, and was awarded a BSc (Hons) degree. He then developed novel cancer treatments at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, where he later earned his PhD from the University of Adelaide for characterizing a placental enzyme critically involved in inflammation and immunity. Dr. Storer joined the University of New South Wales Institute of Neurological Sciences in Sydney for postdoctoral training before moving to University College London Institute of Neurology in 1996 where he combined his knowledge of migraine pathophysiology, and technical expertise in electrophysiology and pharmacology to pursue research in primary headpain, and became a senior research fellow of the College. Following a Royal Society sponsored sabbatical in 2006 at the University of Sydney Pain Management Research Institute, he joined the Department of Neurology at the University of California in San Francisco as an Assistant Professor in 2007 to continue his work advancing the understanding of migraine and identifying new targets for its treatment.
Dr. Storer is a member of the Asia-Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors, International Headache Society, Society for Neuroscience, and the Royal Australian Chemical Society. He is a past member of numerous scientific, business, and public service organizations, and has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, and as founding president of European chapters for South Australian university alumni associations. Dr. Storer has provided business consultancy, and is a member of Australian Alumni Thailand associated with the Australian–Thai Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Storer has received awards and honors for his work, including the Bailleu Research Prize, and awards from the International Headache Society presented in Kyoto and Berlin.”
